A knockout competition between clubs in the lower Divisions of the Football League and more recently members of the Football Conference. The competition came about following the demise of the Football League Group Cup, won by Bournemouth in 1984. The first winners of the Associate Members Cup were Wigan Athletic who beat Brentford at Wembley in 1985. The crowd for the 1988 final between Wolves and Burnley is a World Record for a match between two League sides outside the top Division – a massive 80,841. Wolves lowest post war attendance 1,618 came in this competition against Torquay United in January 1986. Steve Bull scored his first goal for the club in this competition at Cardiff City in December 1986.
