Barraclough, William ‘Billy’

Career: Bridlington Town, Hull City 1925, WOLVES, Chelsea Nov 34, Colchester United 1937, Doncaster Rovers 1938, Peterborough & Fletting United 1939, Hull City (guest) 1940/41.

Billy Barraclough six successful seasons at Wolves after signing from Hull City in 1928. He spent much of his first season in the club in the Reserves with the odd First team outings replacing both Tom Baxter and Jack Hetherington. He finally became a regular in the First Team during the 1930/31 season and was one of the stars of Wolves Second Division championship side of 1931/32.

At Chelsea Barraclough netted 11 goals in 79 appearances before dropping out of league football with Colchester United. He returned to league football for the start of the 1938/39 season with Doncaster Rovers and made the last of his Football League appearances at home to Wrexham on New Year’s Eve 1938 and made his Football League debut for Hull City at home to Port Vale on 21 January 1928. Billy went on to play for Peterborough & Fletting United before retiring during the War.
