Baxter, Thomas William ‘Tom’

Born: Worksop, 1 February 1903; Died Cannock on 21 August 1987.

Career: Warsop Church Lads, Welbeck Colliery, Newark Town, Worksop Town, Mexborough FC, Mansfield Town, WOLVES  cs1927, Port Vale cs 1929, Mansfield Town 1931, Margate 1931, Carlisle United 1933, Distillery.

Tom’s Two seasons at Molineux having been signed from Mansfield Town in the summer of 1927 were unfortunately for him to see Wolves finished in the bottom six of the Second Division in his two seasons. He replaced Walter Weaver and was himself replaced in the team by Jack Hetherington. He made a total of 50 First Eleven appearances for Wolves netting 14 goals. For the Reseves Baxter was in the side beaten at Blackburn Rovers 9-2 in November 1927.

At Port Vale he helped them lift the Third Division (North) title in 1930 and ended his time there with 11 goals in 58 appearances. He returned to Mansfield Town and made 14 appearances before a spell on the south coast with Margate. He made his final five Football League appearances with Carlisle United in 1933.
