Emilio came to England from Spain in 1937 as a Basque refugee and started playing for his local team in East Anglia ’Basque’ Boys. He then had a spell with Stafford’s English Electric before joining Wolves juniors and turning professional in December 1943. He made his debut against Crewe Alexandra on 28 August 1943, which Wolves won 2-1. This was the opening day of the season and he only signed thirty minutes before the game. The newspaper reported that Lee had scored one of the winning goals, which was in fact Aldecoa wearing the same number as Lee would have done. He was Wolves top scorer in that season. In December 1945 he joined Coventry City, and scored one of the goals in their 3-1 win against Portsmouth in his debut appearance. In 1947 he returned to his homeland and played for Athletico Bilbao, Real Valladolid, Barcelona 1947 (helping them win the Spanish Championship in 1952 and 1953), Sporting Gijon and ended his playing career with Gerona. In May 1948 he made an appearance for Spain as a 31st minute substitute against Eire, in which Spain won 2-1. He then went on to manage Gerona, CD Condal of Barcelona and Real Valladolid. Aldecoa, a forward, was born in Zorroza, Vizaya, Spain on 30 November 1922 and died in his homeland in September 1999.
