Ireland, John H

Was a director with Wolves from 1955 to 1977. He was director first then vice chairman from 1962 until taking over the chairmanship from 1964 to 1977. In 1977 he was given the honour of being club presidency until 1984 when he passed away.

He had a lifelong association with the club and in the early days was a cleaner of balls and boots. He was also one of the few football chairman who was also a qualified Referee as well as being an amatuer player.

John Ireland will forever be remembered as the man who sacked Stan Cullis.

The Steve Bull stand was previous the John Ireland stand. Derek Dougan have first name the stand after Mr Ireland and Sir Jack Haywood changed it in 2003 in recognition of Steve Bull’s record at the club.
