Wolves first French opposition were Santander F.C. in June 1930 in the ‘Santander Tournament’. Although Wolves scored through Billy Hartill they lost 3-1. In May 1933 Wolves toured France and beat Red Star Olympique, lost to Marseilles, beat Nimes and Italian side Pro Vercelli and then drew with Nice. Wolves, who were the first continental side to visit both Marseilles and Nimes, were awarded the Gold Cup for having the best record of any side to visit Nice during the 1932/33 season. In May 1937 Wolves lost to a Paris League XI during a tour of Europe and May 1948 Wolves went to Paris the play Stade Francoise and to lose 3-1 in front of a crowd that numbered 4,000.
