Roman side, Lazio were formed in 1900 by an Italian army officer and adopted Greek colours. They have won the League on two occasions and the Italian Cup three times. They lost the 1998 UEFA Cup but won the European Cup-Winners Cup a year later. The only meetings between the clubs came in May 1970. Lazio coached by Lorenzo, the Argentinean 1966 World Cup coach came to Molineux and went away defeated thanks to a Mike Bailey sixty-third minute winner, before Lazio’s Chinaglia was sent-off in the last minute. The return at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, saw the light-blues win 2-0, thanks to a double strike from Ghio. A fierce match again saw a sending-off in the last minute, this time Sulfaro.
