Wolves have only met Argentinean opposition on two occasions. The first in March 1954 saw the Racing Club of Buenos Aires become the first South American club to visit Molineux. Wolves won the encounter 3-1 with goals from Doug Taylor, Norman Deeley and Jimmy Mullen. In January 1956 San Lorenzo visited Molineux and went away having been thrashed 5-1. Wolves scorers on this occasion were Johnny Hancocks from the penalty spot, Peter Broadbent with a hat-trick and the Dennis Wilshaw with the fifth. In November 1981 Wolves were invited to South America to take on the National team (the World Champions), but John Barnwell turned the match down as he had agreed to play a testimonial at Dudley Town.
