Family Connections: Jim Barron (Father) Blackburn Rovers, Darlington.

Jim Barron is the son to Jim Barron ‘Senior’ who was a goalkeeper who played league football for both Blackburn Rovers and Darlington. His early football saw him with Raby Street School, Byker Boys, Newcastle Boys and Newcastle West End Boys Club before joining Wolves in November 1961.

He helped the juniors reach the 1962 FA Youth Cup against Newcastle United only to lose over two legs making a total of eight appearances in the FA Youth Cup. He made 56 appearances for the Reserves with his debut coming in the Central League at Barnsley on 3 February 1962. His senior bow came at home to Everton on 30 November 1963 and he went on to make eight appearances for the first eleven before joining Chelsea.

Barron made just the one appearance at Stamford Bridge and transferred to Oxford United were Jim made 165 appearances for the Manor Ground Club and helped them to the Third Division title in 1968. He moved on to Nottingham Forest and made a further 182 appearances before transferring to Swindon Town. He made 93 appearances for the Wiltshire club before a short spell in the United States saw him turn out for Connecticut Bicentennials in 1976. He returned to these shores in as player-coach of Peterborough United who were managed by former Nottingham Forest team mate John Barnwell. He made the last 27 of his career whilst at London Road. He has since gone on to a very successful coaching career.

Barron suffered relegation with WOLVES in 1965 and 1984, and Nottingham Forest 1972.
