Beavon, Cyril

England Youth international Beavon joined the club as a junior and turned professional in December 1954. He made seven appearances in the FA Youth Cup netting twice against Walsall on 24 November 1954 and 55 appearances for the Reserves as well as and helping them to the Central League title in 1958. He transferred to Oxford United in January 1959 and made 273 League appearances. He made his Football League debut at Barrow on 18 August 1962 and helped them to promotion from the Fourth Division in 1966 and the Third in 1968. Right-half Beavon was born in Barnsley on 27 September 1937 and left for Banbury United on leaving Oxford United in 1969. He is the father of Wolverhampton born Michael Stuart Beavon ‘snr’ who played League football for Tottenham Hotspur, Notts County, Reading and Northampton Town. His grandson Stuart ‘jnr’ has played for Ardley, ATC Wallingford, Didcot Town, Weymouth and Wycombe Wanderers.
