Born: Hurlford, Ayrshire (Scotland), 22 March 1868; Died: Wolverhampton, 14 December 1951.

Career: Hurlford 1888, Grimsby Town cs 1889, Middlesbrough 1891, WOLVES Jly 93, Burnley Dec 96, Tottenham Hotspur cs 1897, Woolwich Arsenal cs 1898, Clyde Apr 1900.

David Black early career saw him playing for Ayrshire club Hurlford before joining Grimsby Town. He scored on his Grimsby debut against Long Eaton Rangers in their opening 1889/90 Football Alliance fixture. He went on to make 44 appearances at Blundell Park netting 12 goals before signing for Northern League Middlesbrough. He spent two seasons with ‘The Boro’ and on 4 February 1893 he scored against Wolves in the FA Cup. Wolves went on to win the FA Cup and Black joined Wolves three months later. He made his First Team debut in a 7-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on 2 September 1893 (The opening day of the 1893/94 season) and in helped the club in 1894 to the Birmingham Cup, Charity Cup and Staffordshire Cup finals and in 1895 to the Staffordshire Cup final. In 1896 he scored Wolves only goal in the clubs FA Cup final defeat to The Wednesday at Crystal Palace. He made 102 appearances for the First team netting 24 goals. In December 1896 he transferred to Burnley and made 13 appearances registering just the one goal. In the summer of 1897 he signed for Southern League Tottenham Hotspur and helped them to the Runners-up spot in the United Counties League in his first season. He went on to make 37 appearances for Spurs netting 16 goals before his next move to Arsenal. He stayed at Arsenal for two season but without making a senior appearance he returned to Scotland and signed for Clyde in April 1900. He made one appearance for Scotland against Ireland on 9 March 1889 scoring in as 7-0 victory at Ibrox.
