Bond, Anthony ‘Tony’

Career: Preston North End juniors, Dick Kerr’s FC, Blackburn Rovers Apr 32, Dick Kerr’s FC, Chorley, Wolves Nov 36, Torquay United Jne 37, Southport Aug 45, Everton (guest), Barrow (guest), and Preston North End (guest), Leyland Motors (guest), Chorley (guest), Accrington Stanley May 46, Fleetwood in Jne 47, Bacub BoroughBamber Bridge.

He made scoring debut in Wolves colours for the juniors at the Bushbury Gas Works in a Birmingham Combination game a fixture that saw a 2-0 win over Birmingham ‘A’ on 7 November 1937. He went on to make 12 appearances for the juniors netting three goals. Bond made eight appearances for the Reserves registering two goals after netting on his debut (a week after his juniors bow). Tony signed for Torquay United and made his Football League debut against Walsall on the opening day of the 1937/38 season. He went on to make 16 senior appearances on the South Coast before returning North and signing for Southport. Due to the hostilities Bond only made two senior appearances for Southport both coming in the FA Cup. His final 31 senior appearances came with Accrington Stanley before he dropped into Non-league circles. Tony was a nephew of Dickey Bond who served Preston North End, Bradford City and Blackburn Rovers.
