Walsall born George Bowen had two stints with the club after first joining from Bridgetown Amateurs in the summer of 1899. He made his debut for the Reserves at home to Stourbridge in the Birmingham & District League on 2 September and his First Team bow came against Liverpool at Anfield on 25 November 1899. In his first stint he made a total of 62 first team appearances netting 16 goals and picked up two Staffordshire Cup winners medal in 1900 netting in the final against Burslem Port Vale and 1901. He also made 38 appearances for the Reserves netted 17 goals and picked up a winners medal in the Walsall Cup in 1900. In May 1901 Bowen transferred to Liverpool but made just two senior appearances with the first against rivals Everton and the second against Sunderland in which he broke his leg. He returned to Wolves in November 1901 and in his second spell in the Old Gold & Black colours saw he made just three First Team starts netting just the one goal. He did though make a further 60 appearances for the Reserves netting 19 goals. In the summer of 1904 George Bowen moved to Burslem Port Vale and made seven appearances netting just the single goal on his debut at home to Manchester United on 3 September. Before retirement George a Centre-forward returned to Amateur ranks with Bloxwich Strollers. Bowen made 59 Football League appearances netting 15 goals.
