League Status: A week before the match with it is announced that nine clubs have shown interest in applying for First Division status if it extended to 22 clubs. They are Arsenal, Barnsley, Birmingham, Chelsea, Hull City, Nottingham Forest, Stockport County, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves. On Monday 10 March Chelsea were elected without a ballot, then Arsenal were elected with 18 votes. Other votes went Tottenham 8 and Barnsley 5.
