Everton (H) 1903/04

Saturday 5 December 1903 at Molineux (Att 5,000)

Wolves (2) 2 (Miller 15, Baynham 20): Baddeley, Jones, Betteley, Whitehouse, G Walker, Annis, Baynham, Haywood, Wooldridge, J Smith, Miller.
Everton (0) 2 (McDermott 70 85): Kitchen, W Balmer, Crelly, Wolstenholme, Booth, Abbott, Sharp, Taylor, Settle, McDermott, Corrin.

Referee: Mr J Smith (Doncaster).
Order of Goals: W,W,e,e.
Half-time: The referee blew for the half-time after just 36 minutes, but the remaining nine minutes were played after a Linesmen pointed out the mistake. The Press Box and spectators had thought the match had in fact been abandoned because the visibility was so bad. Just down the road at West Bromwich Albion, their match with Derby County had been postponed because of the fog.
Weather: Because of fog the kick-off was brought forward fifteen minutes to 2:30pm. Because of the thickness you could only see halfway across the pitch. At the brake the teams didn’t leave the pitch and turned straight round.
Injury: Wolves lost the services of Adam Hayward for the biggest part of the second-half.
Newspaper: Some publications state that Everton’s first goal was in fact scored by Jimmy Settle.
Landmark: Tommy McDermott’s first effort is the 100th League goal between the two clubs.
Position: 8th.
