In May in 1939 Wolves faced Dutch opposition for the first time. Wolves who had just faced three sides in Denmark travelled to Feyenoord and came away with as handsome 4-0 win, thanks to goals from Dickie Dorset and Dennis Westcott with two each. In May 1948 The Dutch FA were beaten 3-2 in Rotterdam and the National XI were beaten 1-0 in Amsterdam. In October 1952 a Netherlands XI were faced in front of a 52,000 crowd and thanks to goals from Les Smith and Peter Broadbent Wolves gained a 2-2 draw. The United States Tournament of 1967 saw Wolves face A.D.O on two occasions. The first match in Los Angeles saw Wolves lose 1-0 and Ernie Hunt and Derek Dougan sent-off. Two days later in San Francisco revenge was sweet as Terry Wharton and Dougan netted the games only goals. GVAV Gronigen were faced twice in pre-season friendlies in 1970 and 1971. Wolves lost in Holland by the only goal in 1970 and won 2-0 at Molineux the following year with Danny Hegan netting the only goals. On the way to the UEFA Cup final of 1972 Wolves faced Den Haag in the second round. Wolves won both matches and the second leg at Molineux saw the Dutch side net three own-goals. The first round of the UEFA Cup of 1980/81 Wolves faced PSV Eindovern and lost 3-2 on aggregate. The second leg at Molineux won by Wolves thanks to a Mel Eves goal was held up for a number of minutes thank to a floodlight failure.
