Unione Sportiva Lecce were formed in 1908 and initially the club comprised football, cycling and athletics. In 1976 Lecce won Coppa Italia Serie C and the Anglo-Italian Semi-professional Cup beating Scarborough in the final. After spending most of their history bouncing between Serie B and Seria C, they finally gained promotion to Italy’s top division ‘Serie A’ in 1985. Wolves only meeting with Lecce, at the Via del Mare Stadium, came on 24 August 1994 and Wolves winning goal came from David Kelly nine minutes from time.
