Career: St Machar’s 1929, Hall, Russell & Co 1930, Aberdeen Aug 31, WOLVES Aug 33, Blackburn Rovers Dec 34, Birmingham City Jan 37, Huddersfield Town Jan 38, Grimsby Town Feb 38, Walsall 1939.

At Aberdeen Beattie made netted 12 goals in 60 appearances before joining Wolves. At Molineux he went on to make 46 appearances netting 13 goals for the First Eleven as well as netting three goals in four appearances for the Reserves. He then joined Blackburn Rovers and went onto make 81 appearances as well as netting 11 goals. But Rovers were relegated during his time at Ewood Park and he moved to Birmingham City in an exchange deal involving Billy Guest. His twelve months at St. Andrews saw him make 36 appearances with 10 goals before a month was spent with Huddersfield Town saw him transfering to Grimsby Town. His stay with the ‘Fisherman’  saw  him make 74 appearance netting 19 goals until he signed for Walsall just before the out brake of World War Two.

During his time at Grimsby Town he helped them to the 1939 FA Cup Semi-final against Wolves.
